Booked a holiday but have no idea what to pack? You are not alone judging by the strange things some men decide to wear whilst on vacation. Sometimes a baggy t-shirt, cargo shorts from 4 seasons ago and a grubby old pair of flip flops just won’t cut it and you could do with updating your summer wardrobe. Here are some holiday essentials to keep you looking fresh from beach to bar.
- White trainers
These are an absolute summer staple and with good reason. A fresh, white pair of tennis shoes will see you right from morning until night and can be worn with just about anything, from shorts and a tee to chinos and a summer shirt.
- Chino shorts
They might look simple, but they are surprisingly easy to get wrong. Don’t be tempted to wear anything with more than two side pockets anymore but look for a new pair in a dark, plain colour that will act as a useful base for many different outfit choices.
- Sunglasses
Getting these wrong can jeopardise your whole carefully put together outfit. Play it safe with a classic Wayfarer or opt for a mirrored lens which is all the rage right now.
- Plain T-Shirt
The humble but wonderfully versatile t-shirt is another wardrobe essential. However, it’s too easy to get carried away with holiday tees and cover them in slogans, bad graphics or tacky logos. Keep it fresh and crease-free with a plain navy, white or grey that will go with everything and work just as well by the pool as it will in the restaurant.
- Swim shorts
Whilst you should be careful with daytime shorts, when it comes to swimming shorts, you can be as carefree and colourful as you desire. Try to avoid the speedos of the Germans and the baggy board shorts of the Aussie surfers, but anything else is up for grabs.
- Printed shirt
Forget dads on cruises or Magnum PI, printed shirts have made a comeback so it’s perfectly acceptable to find a stylish, mature variety that doesn’t resemble a Hawaiian shirt and stick it in your suitcase. Keep it on trend with a relaxed slim fit and Cuban collar. Check out the Bugatti Short Sleeve Shirt available at https://www.ejmenswear.com/men/bugatti/short-sleeve-shirts
- Light-coloured Chinos
Opt for slim but not skinny chinos in a summery light shade of military green, grey or tan. If you’re feeling brave, choose a white pair to rock the Miami Vice vibe.
- Lightweight jersey sweatshirt
There will undoubtedly come a time when things cool down a bit, like evening walks along a breezy beach or the odd overcast day. For these occasions, a jersey sweatshirt is the answer. It won’t take up much case space and can be worn with virtually anything, from shorts to chinos.
