Features To Look for in a Campground

Camping can be a fun and inexpensive way to take a vacation. However, not all campsites are created equal. Here are some features to look for when evaluating campgrounds.

Shower Facilities

If you are planning to stay more than one night, you are probably going to need a place to take a shower. Some campgrounds offer a barebones, cold water only, outdoor shower. Others have mobile shower trailers that have hot and cold running water and changing rooms. If the campground you are considering does not have shower facilities, you may want to investigate purchasing a portable shower to take with you.

Food

Avoiding spoiled or soggy food in your cooler can be difficult on an extended camping trip and eating only shelf-stable foods can get boring. Look for campgrounds that at least have vending machines. Some may have camp stores that sell snacks and other food and some may even have concession stands. Check the local area for nearby grocery stores or restaurants you can dine at in case the hot dogs and smores get old.

Internet Service

If you are planning on doing some old-school, off-the-grid, camping, this may not be important to you, but for everyone else, it can be nice to have access to the internet to look up information about local attractions, find restaurants, or even use your phone to find your way out of the woods. check to see if the campground offers wireless internet access. If not, you may want to verify whether your cell service has coverage in the area for cellular internet access.

The type of features you need in a campground will vary with the type of camping you plan to do. However, whatever your plans are, it is a good idea to compare the amenities before you choose a campground to stay at.
