A musical treat in Gloucester

Gloucester and Cheltenham and both thriving areas for music and other festivals. Music festivals are incredibly popular during the summer months and here are some of the events that you may want to have a look at.

Witcombe Cider Festival – Set up back in 2012 the Witcombe Cider Festival in the Brockworth area of Gloucester takes place in the Summer of each year. It sees music and cider lovers coming together to enjoy the August Bank HOliday weekend with some great ciders and music from the likes of Lethal Bizzle, Artful Dodger and Ella Eyre amongst many other incredible artists. It is thought that over 10,000 will visit the festival of the bank holiday period. It has come a long way since its first year when 200 people met in the local village hall to enjoy tasting some regional ciders and listen to some music. Each year the festival grows and it has now moved to a new site in Brockworth that will allow the festival to grow further.

Cheltenham Music Festival – each year four different festivals take place throughout the year in Cheltenham all set up by the Cheltenham Festivals organisation. The Music festival takes place in July in various locations across the town include the Montpellier Garden, Town Hall and Pittville Pump Rooms. Tickets for events can be bought in advance from the Festival website. Music lovers can enjoy pieces from soloists and groups as well as full orchestral pieces.

Lakefest – this is probably one of the region’s largest festivals that takes place at Eastnor Castle each year. The popularity of the festival is such that tickets regularly sell out in advance of the event. This year it takes place between the 8th and 11th August with the Early Bird tickets reportedly already having sold out. Having originated in 2011 the festival line up for this year includes The Kaiser Chiefs, Red Hot Chilli Pipers and Sophie Ellis-Bexter. As well as enjoying the incredible acts that appear on the various stages across the three days festival goers can choose to camp on the site for a number of nights of their choice.

These are just three examples of music festivals that take place in the region throughout the summer period. There are many more throughout the year including the Coopers Hill Cheese Rolling and the other Cheltenham Festivals.
